Privacy Policy – Mítosz

1. Who We Are

This website, Mítosz, is operated by Zsolt Bugarszki. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, you can reach me at zsoltbugarszki@mitosz.com.

Mítosz is an independent author project by Zsolt Bugarszki. The website is built and hosted on Wix. The Mítosz interactive world (see section 6) is hosted on GitHub Pages.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers the Mítosz website and the Mítosz interactive world, and how we handle visitor and subscriber data, including cookies and similar technologies, our newsletter, advertising, and the anonymous usage measurement in the world.

3. What data we collect

We collect your email address when you choose to subscribe to the newsletter, or when you ask to be notified about the continuation in the Mítosz world. Both are optional and opt-in.

We also receive any message or information you send us directly, for example by email, or when you type a question to Luna in the Mítosz world.

In addition, we collect technical and usage data through cookies and similar technologies (see section 5), such as pages viewed, interactions on the site, approximate location, and device or browser information. The Mítosz world has its own anonymous usage measurement (see section 6).

4. Why we use it

We use this data to send you the newsletter and the notifications you subscribed to, to understand how the site and the world are used and improve them, to measure and improve our advertising, and to respond to messages you send us.

5. Cookies, tracking, and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies, grouped as follows.

Essential. These are set by our platform, Wix, and are necessary for the site to function, for example security, page loading, and session handling. They do not require consent.

Analytics and session insight. We use analytics tools, including Wix built-in analytics and Wix Session Recordings, to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are viewed and where people click or scroll. Session Recordings capture on-site interactions in an anonymized form. Sensitive inputs, such as text you type, are masked and are not recorded in a readable way.

Advertising and measurement. We do not display advertisements on this site. We do promote Mítosz through ads on Facebook and Instagram, and we use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and the Meta Conversions API to measure and improve those ads, including understanding which visits lead to a newsletter sign-up.

Non-essential technologies (analytics, session insight, and advertising) run only if you agree to them. When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you Accept or Decline. If you decline, these technologies are not activated. You can change your mind at any time (see section 10).

6. The Mítosz interactive world

The Mítosz world is the interactive, web-based reading path of the novel: a map, stations, music, and Luna, the narrator you can talk with. The following data handling takes place in the world.

Anonymous usage measurement. To understand how the world is read and used, we record anonymous events: which screens you opened, what you clicked, how far you got in the reading and how much time you spent on it, whether the music was playing, whether you opened the notes or the conversation with Luna, as well as your device type and screen size, browser language, local time, and which website you came from. Until you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner on mitosz.com, the world measures without a visitor identifier: we cannot tell whether you have been here before. If you accept, your browser stores a random identifier, and that is how we recognise you when you return. Where you are in the story is remembered by your browser either way. We do not record your name or your email address, and we do not store your IP address. This measurement does not follow you to other websites. You can turn the measurement off at any time (see section 10).

Measuring our ads in the world. If you accepted marketing cookies in the cookie settings of this site, Meta (Facebook) learns that you entered the world, opened or finished the Prologue, subscribed, or clicked the book link. This shows us which ad brings real readers. We still pass on no name or email address. If you turned the world's measurement off, these signals are not sent either.

What your browser remembers. Instead of cookies, the world uses your browser's local storage: it keeps the random identifier (on mitosz.com only if you accepted analytics cookies), where you are in the story, your chosen language, and your sound setting. If you clear the site data in your browser, all of these are erased and the world sees you as a new, unknown visitor.

Questions to Luna. If you type a question to Luna, we save its text together with the anonymous identifier above, the station, and the path you chose in the conversation. We use the questions to expand the conversations and content of the world, and we may quote or answer them, without naming you, in the world, on the blog, or in the newsletter. Please do not include personal data in your question.

Notification about the continuation. If you give your email address in the world, we use it to notify you about the continuation of the story and news about the world. Along with your email address we store the interface language, where and when you subscribed, and your device type. Your subscription is stored separately from the anonymous measurement data. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the notifications, or by emailing zsoltbugarszki@mitosz.com.

Service providers in the world. The files of the world are served by GitHub Pages; the provider receives the technical data needed for the connection, such as your IP address. The anonymous measurement data is stored with Google (a Google Sheet in our own account, which receives the data through Google Apps Script); Google also receives the technical data needed for the connection, but we do not store your IP address. The questions to Luna and the subscriptions are stored on Wix.

7. Who receives data

Wix.com is our website platform. It provides hosting, essential site functions, built-in analytics, Session Recordings, and our newsletter and email tools, and it stores the questions written to Luna and the subscriptions, as well as, until we move them, the measurement data of the Mítosz world from before 4 October 2026.

Google stores the anonymous measurement data of the Mítosz world (Google Sheets and Google Apps Script, in our own account).

Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram). When advertising is active and you have consented, the Meta Pixel and Conversions API share limited event data with Meta so we can measure our ads. When you interact with one of our ads on Meta's platforms, any data involved there is processed by Meta under its own policies.

GitHub (GitHub Pages) serves the files of the Mítosz world.

We do not sell your personal data.

8. Legal basis (for visitors in the EU, the UK, and similar regions)

We rely on your consent for non-essential cookies and similar technologies (analytics, Session Recordings, and the advertising pixel), for the newsletter, and for the notification about the continuation. We rely on our legitimate interests and the necessity of operating the site for essential cookies. For the anonymous usage measurement in the Mítosz world we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the reading experience. You can object to this at any time, and you can turn the measurement off (see section 10).

9. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described here. We keep the anonymous measurement data of the world for no more than 24 months. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

10. Your choices and rights

You can accept or decline non-essential cookies through the cookie banner, and change your choice later, for example by clearing the site's cookies in your browser or by contacting us.

You can turn off the anonymous measurement in the Mítosz world under "Privacy" (you will find it at the bottom of the opening screen, the main screen, and the closing screen). Once it is off, the world sends no measurement data from that device and erases the random identifier. You can remove your reading progress by clearing the site data in your browser.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter and the notifications at any time using the link in any email.

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you can object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, email zsoltbugarszki@mitosz.com.

If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

11. International visitors

The site is available to readers in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Hungary. Depending on where you are, different privacy rules may apply, and the cookie banner reflects the appropriate choices for your region.

12. Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed.
